February ‘24: Moodboards, Ideas & Thoughts
With February upon us, I’m here to share my visual inspiration for the month. The things that have been on my mind, what’s been inspiring me lately and whatnot. Usually, when February rolls around, I don’t really look forward to it. It’s still cold (at least here in Europe) and I am not a fan of the whole Valentine’s Day obsession. And around this time of year is when you see a lot of Valentine’s Day-inspired outfits on social media, bunches of flowers, pinks and reds, heaps of lingerie and hearts. And don’t get me wrong I do love lace, pinks and reds, I just really don’t like the way these things become so cliché and boring around February. It’s like the month they’re meant to shine they become dull and I just feel so uninspired by them. So to redefine this month for myself and others, I’ve put together a little ‘Monthly Visuals’ for this February to share and inspire.
This Month’s Moodboard
This month my visual inspiration comes from surrealist feminine, 60’s makeup, gorgeous mixes of textures and materials as well as different shades of pinks and lilacs. I am finding myself gravitating towards more abstract and “weird” jewellery - love anything that has a bit of a dream-like surrealist touch at the moment. Leaning into the Aquarius and Piscean energy of February, I am trying to embrace the creative, the weird, the soft and the sensitive.
Outfit-wise I want to try and experiment with different textures and mixing and matching shapes and structures, kind of looking at clothing more as a costume, so that it has this slightly surreal feeling to it. I’m vibing the whole ballet-clown core outfits right - not that I would outright wear exactly that, more so again as an inspiration, especially the vibe. I think we pay so much attention to clothing being something functional that we forget to have fun with what we dress ourselves in. I mean clothing and fashion have so much power, it is a manifestation of your energy to the outside world. In a crowd, it is your outfit that communicates who you are to the world, and with the limitless possibilities that fashion offers, you can be anyone.
I feel like I have forgotten how to have fun with clothes, now that I work and study. But the truth is that you can experiment and play around with outfits, while still being functional. Which is my goal with my style and wardrobe at the moment.
Things that have caught my eye…
Embroidered, Sequinned or bejewelled bags
Obsessed with the ones from Staud and I love all the vintage ones from Fendi - desperately trying to thrift something like this! I think that bags like this can make any boring outfit more interesting. Also try checking out Etsy for small brands and handmade options.
Jewellery Like This
Now, I know I’ve mentioned this countless times in this post, but this kind of Jewellery is just so cool. If you can pull off this kind of Jewellery casually - in my eyes you are like the ultimate cool person. It just adds so much depth and mystery to an outfit, and there is always something to grab people’s attention. It also makes for great conversation starters. I really love this skeleton-spine bracelet and any metal animal-shaped jewellery (bonus points if vintage) is a big yes!
Materials, Colours and Textures
And finally (this one kind of speaks for itself) yes to any kind of interesting material textures and layering. The only rule here is that the outfit must contain two separate items of clothing that differ in texture. A few of my favourite combinations include lace and leather, sequins and knitwear, denim and mesh and lace on lace/crochet on crochet (two different types).
Well, that was it for February, but I’ll be back with a visual inspiration board in March!
xoxo, gabi
