2024 Fashion Trends

With the new year upon us, many of us are looking to refresh our wardrobes. But what will the fashion of the year look like? What will trending and what to buy? Well, I think the fashion world is about to take a bit of a turn. The reign of the hyper-feminine Coquette style and the Y2K craze is coming slowly to an end and this year, I think we can expect to see the return of the 2012/2014 “indie sleaze”/tTumblrgirl, but with a bit of a more classy, chic twist. So, what exactly are we going to be seeing this year?

Without further ado, here my favourite fashion trend predictions for the year 2024.

*Disclaimer* I am in no way a fashion trend predictor, I am just basing these predictions on a mix of research, my likes and my interests in the fashion world. Any Brands mentioned in this post are NOT sponsored. Any Brand recommendations are purely my own.

Cheetah Print

For the longest time, I could not for the life of me figure out what the whole obsession was with cheetah print. Now granted this was back in 2012 and since then I never really paid any attention to the print (and I generally stayed away from animal print) until recently. I have really fallen head over heels for this print and I now need to own something, ideally a top or pointed ballerinas in this print. I feel like it can be really classified as neutral, seeing as it goes with almost anything and it is such a fun and bold addition to any wardrobe or outfit. We are already seeing this trend in coats and printed dresses and I think this may be one of the biggest trends of the year. Already gaining a lot of popularity on Tiktok and also seen in collections from designers like Ganni to the Wales Bonner Sambas (which are so beautiful!) this trend is definitely a more timeless addition to your wardrobe this year.

Bow Evolution

Now, this one I think is very different for everyone, but last year we saw the rise of the bow and a general bow obsession. Many think that the Bow craze is over and has officially died out, what with many fast fashion brands now incorporating the bow into their products, however, I think, although the small, dainty bow obsession is over, we will see the bow in a new way this year, think bigger and bolder. Bows, on dresses, shirts and in hair will become more of a statement, instead of a mere accessory or addition. Maybe the bow will die out within the year, but I don’t think it will go very easily. So if you’re not ready to let it go completely, I would recommend trying to go dramatic with the bow this year.

Chic Shoes

This year, sneakers are taking a backseat. Chic and classy is the motto for the year when it comes to shoes. Think vintage kitten heels and slim loafers (not the chunky ones). We started to see this trend take off last autumn with the rise of the elegant boot and this will only continue through 2024. Whether glossy or leather, we will only see more of the elegant kitten heel, Mary Jane or classic boot. Another thing to look out for is pointed toes in shoes, which are also going nowhere! And more so for boots, the square-toe style is on the rise (and may even take over the pointed toe!). Another timeless piece in any wardrobe and definitely worth investing in.

Big, Big Jewellery

Much like many fashion trends this year, jewellery is also getting bigger and bolder. Small and dainty pieces are taking a break and statement pieces are stealing the limelight. Also, big this year is mixing metals and layering big, chunky pieces. Don’t be shy to add jewellery to an outfit, big and bulky rings, necklaces and earrings are what are going to ground our outfits this year. For this kind of jewellery, I would look to small Spanish brands as they for sure know what they are doing when it comes to jewellery. Brands like Simuero or the Berlin-based brand Uncommon Matters are a great place to look for cute and unique styles.

Bright Bold Colours

We already started to see this as well last year with the pops of dark red and coloured tights. Well, this is only going to get bigger with pops of bright and bold colours such as orange, purple and blue especially in the spring. Blue is going to replace red as the “it colour” of the year and we’ll be seeing it in many different colour variations such as powder blue, navy blue and my personal favourite, cobalt blue. The brighter the blue the better. Also, very fun to spruce up neutral outfits, bright colours are only going to be brighter what with the continuation of the “quiet luxury” aesthetic.

Collars & Sleeves

For me, this is one of my favourites and I have to physically stop myself from thrifting any more big collared shirts. A trend which can be associated with the “coquette style”, the big collars and puffy, princess sleeves will be seen this year but not styled in the typical “coquette” or extremely feminine way. Think more contrast styling, so emphasizing the structure of the garments and contrasting it with typically “masculine” silhouettes like work trousers. I’m currently in love with the Damson Madder collard shirts, which they offer in a variety of different patterns. The big collars on the shirt offer a lot of fun when it comes to styling as you can really layer up to your heart’s desire and achieve an interesting look.

Slouchy Bags

I love that the bigger bags are coming back this year, because they are so functional and what is the point of a bag if you can’t actually carry anything in it? Slouchy, formless shapes and classic designs will dominate our bags in 2024. Look for vintage hobo bags, the less structured the better! The bag brand classic Coach is also having its moment right now, and is making its comeback as the “it girl” bag brand.
